Welcome to Read Rebelliously

Hello! Welcome to my new blog, Read Rebelliously. I hope to use this blog to inspire other teens not only to read but develop a passion for reading.

First off, I have to admit the name Read Rebelliously is slightly ironic because I may kind of be a total goody two-shoes, but I hope that it’s representative of what I want this blog to be. (And no, that doesn’t involve breaking laws. I apologize if you were lured in under false pretenses.) Everyone says teens are “rebellious” but honestly, most of us aren’t really. The majority of us aren’t the kid skipping school to vape or sneaking out of their bedroom window to go party.

When I did a history presentation on Malala Yousafzai last year, I discovered my personal definition of rebellion. It’s not disrespect or violence necessarily. Being rebellious means living your life exactly how you are, according to your morals and beliefs, no matter what others say. Now, in no way am I saying that this obscure book blog on a random corner of the internet is going to change the world or anything. However, if it has an impact on one person’s day, that would be pretty cool.

“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”

-Oscar Wilde

This brings me to my purpose of creating this blog: I want to inspire others to pick up a book. That’s really the main goal when it comes down to it. I want to help others realize the magic of reading because I know that sounds cheesy but it’s a real thing and the impact it can have on you is indescribable. I want people to realize how one book can completely change your perspective and outlook on life. One of my favorite things about reading is how it can allow you to empathize with others by teaching you about other cultures and perspectives. I truly believe that reading can teach you incredible amounts about yourself and the world around you.

So, let’s be rebellious.

Let’s start a revolution.

Let’s read.

  3. This post was really intriguing!! I really loved the definition you gave for rebellion, with making it more about following your own beliefs over a specified path, instead of the more generally assumed definition that portrays it as more negative. Love this, and looking forward to your future posts!!
